THIS Sunday: Sept. 25- God Calls Gideon
Scripture Memory: Revelation 1:8
Catechism: Why did God make you and all things? For his own glory; How can you glorify God? By loving him and doing what he commands.; Why ought you to glorify God? Because he made me and takes care of me.
Children’s Church [8:30AM Service] Children’s Church is available during the 8:30AM service. There’s a kids message in both services. 2nd grade and under will be invited to leave for Children’s Church after that in the 8:30AM service.
* We also have a new Children’s Bulletin that is ideal for 3rd-5th graders. It incorporates the worship bulletin but helps kids track through the service, stay engaged, and worship more fully with us. Look for it on the way into the sanctuary with the other bulletins.

Top 5 Heresies Among American Evangelicals
This article is interesting not because it talks about kids or parenting, but because it reminds us of one of the primary jobs of parenting. The article is a summary of a recent survey on the beliefs of evangelicals in America. Some of the results are surprising as a majority of evangelicals in the survey got some pretty fundamental things wrong about our faith. And this is why it is so important for us as parents to be growing in our faith, and to have a plan for passing that faith on to our kids. In the video below, they quote the verse about our kids being arrows for us to sharpen and shoot out into the world to impact the world for God’s kingdom. And he says, we don’t want to shoot dull arrows. We want to be sharpening our kids by rooting them in the good news of Jesus day in and day out, through what we say and through how they see us live. Our job as parents is to know Jesus and to make him known to our kids. And one of the great gifts of God is that he allows us to do that together as his church.

Fall Habit Reset with Justin Whitmel Earley
This is a kind of throw back to our spring Parent Book Discussion on the book Habits of the Household. Below are links to 1 page reminders of why these habits are important, how we can make them a regular part of our family rhythms this fall, and practical ways we can talk about them with our kids. HERE is also a recent review of the book that reminds us of some good quotes from the book. He also reminds us that the power of any habit is not in the habit itself, but in the Savior who shines through the habit as it helps point us to Him.
PODCAST: Mr. Beast’s Burgers, Rings of Sour, and Spoonies
This is a podcast version of a newsletter Axis Ministries sends out every week. They choose 3 current topics that are popular with teenagers and give an introduction to them to help parents understand a little more about what’s going on in their teenager’s world. It has been helpful for me to learn about some things that my kids love and talk about, and to learn about some things I had no idea about. The episode below talks about Mr. Beast [who my boys love], the new Lord of the Rings TV show on Amazon [that my kids have asked about watching], and a social media phenomenon I didn’t know much about. The podcast gets a little slow in places [and like I said there is a written version of this that is shorter] but it was really helpful to listen to their panel talk about what these things are, why they’re popular with teenagers, and how parents can interact around them with their kids. I think all of their episodes are valuable info and a good window into how to talk about these things Biblically. You can CLICK HERE to go to the page with all of the podcasts they offer or click below to go to the specific episode I mentioned.

VIDEO: Preparing Our Kids for Trials
This interview was really encouraging. I like Benjamin and Kirsten Watson. They have a real gospel-centered, down to earth approach to parenting. I always walk away from listening to them encouraged about why parenting is so important and with some practical things to try out. This is a 15 minute interview about things they have learned parenting their 7 kids.
