The Father who Wants to be Known

We often hear the power that fathers have in the life of their kids and this is a powerful reminder of the impact we can have on our kids and their faith. I was recently talking with a friend who did not grow up knowing his dad but was reconnected with him in the last few years. It was interesting listening to him talk about not knowing basic stories about his dad and what life had been like for his dad, that many of us take for granted knowing. So the way he is getting to know his dad is through asking his dad to tell him stories about his life. But it begins with our relationship with our heavenly Father. I hope this will be an encouragement to you as you seek to know God more and as you work to be known by your kids more fully.

Teenagers and Technology

I have asked myself many times over the last few months- “What has happened to all of our typical rules for technology in our house?”. This is obviously a unique time but I’ve wondered if we are handling it ok in our house. This article is encouraging, not just because it helped assuage my guilt over our kids spending way more time than usual on technology :), but it gives some helpful measures to consider as we think about the health of our kids and try to keep pour households going at the same time. It’s helping me think about how to approach July and the last half of the summer.

Summer reading: A Grade-by-Grade Recommended Reading List for Kids

This is quite a list but I’m always looking for lists of books to consider, especially ones that are divided by age and grade.

VIDEO: Interview with Harvard Education Professor Nancy Hill

This interview is a little bit different but I enjoyed it. It’s about 18 minutes long and includes some interesting research on parenting, as well as some of Professor Nancy Hill’s own story of how her faith has grown over the years, her experience in different types of churches, and what it’s like to be a Christian professor at Harvard. She also talks about what she’s learned through parenting her own kids.

PODCAST: Talking with Your Kids About Jesus

This was an interesting, 30 minute conversation, with good ideas on how to encourage faith in our kids.
